Living With Giants

Living With Giants is an instrumental post-rock band from Sacramento, California.

Currently consisting of Ryan Mannie, Carver Simmons, and Andrew Mckay Curteman, Living With Giants was founded in 2009 by Ryan as a solo project for his more ambient musical expressions, but eventually grew to a four member lineup for live performances. The band released their first full-length album “The World is Held by a Taut String” in May 2011.

The band saw a string of live performances with a slight rotation of members from the years 2012-2014. During this period Living With Giants focused on learning more about music and production, eventually leading to a tenure at a local studio where they worked to craft their sound further.

After a period of inactivity between 2015 and 2021, Living With Giants returned as a duo of Ryan Mannie and Carver Simmons with a renewed focus on songwriting, recording and studio craft. Their EP “This Place Is Not a Home” was released in May 2022, largely consisting of material that was written just prior to their unplanned hiatus.

Following positive feedback on their 2022 release, Living With Giants quickly began working on their follow-up piece “Rest". Focusing on the ups and downs along the path to normalcy during treatment and recovery from chronic illness, this piece finds Ryan Mannie & Carver Simmons exploring new sonic territories and structures as the duo process the struggle felt throughout the piece which was released in July 2023.

In 2024, Living With Giants reintroduced Andrew Mckay Curteman on percussion. As an original member and longtime collaborator, Mckay brings with him a wealth of knowledge and experience. With this inspiration, the band had taken most of the year collaborating with other musicians and engineers, working in the studio on their split EP with UK band beneathwaves which was released early 2025.
