Can you introduce Screamutter?

We are a 5 piece screamo band from Swindon in the UK. Jen screams, Ben keeps time, JJ on bass, and Col and Ace (me) on guitar. We're all in our mid 20s now and have known each other through school. We even all went to college together! Col, myself and Ben were in a college band that shall remain nameless but we never performed. It was fun though. After college, work! 🤐 We reconnected and have been talking about this for a while, so let's get the band together!

What are your inspirations and creative process?

Our original inspirations come from UK politics; something to shout about 😃 Our first song unfortunately doesn't feature Jen because she's been naughty lol and is currently at His Majesty's Pleasure. This made the recording process somewhat more complicated than we had envisaged. We did, however, go into the studio to record the instruments. The challenge was finding someone to provide vocals. Our producer knew that huxSLAY was free to record immediately and so he stepped in and added a touch of flair.

This release is our first studio recording. It's called "Resignation" and it was written by Gordon Brown, then Prime Minister of the UK, so yes, it's his leaving speech. This is our idea, you see, putting speeches like this to music and getting them heard. Not that we're political at all but these guys know how to write a good speech, there are some really good and really bad speeches out there and it seems only fair we share them with the world. There are more to come; this is the first.

The process, such as it is, is relatively simple and almost certainly the same as most other bands. We have our comfortable tempo range, so Ben and JJ usually start off. Col usually comes in first followed by me on second guitar. Col usually shouts out the changes and we all go with it. Riffs appear out of thin air lol, although they're probably inspired by our listening choices. For my part, I like punk and thrash. The others mostly listen to '00s metal as that's what we all grew up with.

What's next for Screamutter?

We're all looking forward to Jen being released so we can be the 5-piece again. Being the front of the band, she engages folk, she's so much more engaging than us guys lol. So her being inside has presented us with challenges lol. Not just that we haven't been able to play live for a while. So we're starting a new online presence.
