The Kind Hills
A Simple Life II (EP)

After our Subjangle label compiled all of Brisbane-based The Kind Hills' singles in March 2025 on the critically acclaimed "A Simple Life" EP, the act led by Roman Gabriel continue with the same formula for their follow-up and cunningly named, "A Simple Life II" EP.

While "A Simple Life II" may be slightly less irreverent and playful than its predecessor, it explores the best elements of 1990s and 2000s indie and twee-pop. In this context, tracks like "Fighting All The Time" and "Guess How Much I Love" embody a slacker-infused, bedroom-pop interpretation of The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart's jangly twee-pop sound in something of an unprecented mixture of aural textures.

The more obscure aspects of 90's and 2000's jangly indie-pop are explored in "Heartbeat" and "The 1990s," as The Kind Hills assert their presence in a musical landscape that seems to blend the quirky charm of Babybird with the early lo-fi obtuse of Ariel Pink.

The Kind Hills also utilize this release to highlight a nuance they had only briefly flirted with in their back catalogue in the standout track from "Don't Let The Darkness Steal Your Light" and the closing "The Kind Hills" as they approach Wilko's stoic Americana with a cautious, but consummate aplomb.

Quirky jangly indie-pop that forgoes the current all consuming trend of everything that Sarah Record was !
